The latest plan for the warehouse on Wentworth Industrial Park, has been rejected unanimously by the planning committee. The reason for refusal were as follows: The site lies adjacent to the Green Belt and an area defined as being of Borough Landscape Value on the approved Barnsley Unitary Development Plan. UDP policy GS9 indicates that development conspicuous from the Green Belt should not by reason of its siting, materials or design result in significant visual harm to the Green Belt. In the opinion of the Local Planning Authority, the proposed development would be harmful to the adjacent Green Belt and Area of Borough Landscape Value, by reason of the elevated location, height, scale and massing of the proposed units. As such the proposal is considered contrary to UDP policy GS9. Why was the previous plan approved then? We will report back with the BMBC ‘official answer' to this as soon as we have one.
