- Buy or borrow a long stake for sticking in the ground, and a length of wood to nail on like a cross. This will form the frame for your scarecrow.
- Gather up old clothes or unfashionable trousers, shits and jackets (your dads wardrobe might be good for this, or what he’s wearing!) Charity shops may have clothes available cheaply. Ask them and tell them what it’s for, they may have stuff that’s not good enough to sell (but don’t let your dad wear them)! BARC at Hoyland Common is our nearest charity shop.
- Get old Hats and scarfes, and gloves, see if you can find an old hessian sack for the head, or make one out of papier mache.
- Use newspaper or straw to stuff your scarecrow, and use string to tie up the ends. You may find it easier to stuff old carrier bags to fill in the arms and legs and body.
- Get someone to help you attach your scarecrow to the frame.
