| Pilley Panthers Junior Football Club was established in 2003, with then an under 8’s junior football team. This team are now the under 13’s, and are still going strong, after a number of very successful seasons. Pilley Panthers play their home games on the Lidgett Lane Recreation Ground and are members of the PPA Millennium league. In their short history they have never been out of the Top 3 and have been runners up in this league 3 times, however that coveted crown of champions has eluded them. They were very successful in 2005/2006 season, when they were the Millennium league Cup winners and runners up in the league at Under 10’s age group Back in 2004, Pilley Panthers went on tour, when the team travelled to Barcelona, to the world famous Camp Nou Stadium where they were invited to play against one of the nursery teams of FC Barcelona. The following year they were back on tour when they then travelled to Paris, and played against another nursery team, this time it was Paris St Germain who were the hosts. It is hoped that they will be able to organise another trip to play against similar opposition in the near future. Pilley Panthers are currently hoping to set up another team, an under 8’s squad which will hopefully be as successful as the founder team. The older age group, Under 13’s is run by Gary Charlesworth (Coach) and Mark Holden (Club Manager) again, if you know of anyone in this age group who would be interested in playing for the team you should contact Gary Charlesworth on 07592 805507. Even though this team is already established they are looking for one or two players to add to their squad. Gary is qualified to Level 2 Certificate in coaching football and will be the coach for both teams. Pilley Panthers JFC are committed to encouraging the children to enjoy and develop their football skills. Gary and Mark are both qualified FA coaches, and both have been approved by the FA for child protection and are CRB checked. Mark is the Welfare Officer for the club. The Club are currently working towards achieving the award of being classed as a Charter Standard Club. This award is available for a Youth Football Club to have demonstrated that they have in place a Management Structure, Insurance, Fair Play and Qualified Personnel. The team’s currently hold weekly training sessions on the Lidgett Lane recreation ground, this is also the venue for their home matches. The team train on Wednesday evening, 6.30-7.30 p.m. In addition the Under 13’s also train on a Saturday morning, 11.00a.m.–12.00 in order to prepare for the matches which are normally played on a Sunday mornings, and usually Kick off at 11.00a.m. All of their games are refereed by a qualified referee. Both new and old supporter are welcome for the 2008/2009 season. Pilley Panthers is a small, friendly family run club. All the hard work and organisation is carried out by volunteers (parents). They are always looking for people to help, whether it be with the training of the team’s, organising fund raising, i.e. raffles etc, or helping with the equipment. Family members are always encouraged to attend matches, to cheer on the team and support their children. To help raise funds, the parents usually run a tuck shop, where on cold wintry days you can help to keep warm watching the match with tea and coffee. Occasionally, they also hold social functions for the players and their families, either as a fund raising event or at Christmas time some other social activity for the kids. There is also an end of season party where the kids are rewarded for their efforts during the season. The team would like to thank, Tankersley Parish Council who have shown their support over the years by awarding a number of Grants to help with the running of the team, without which Pilley Panthers would not be as successful as it has been. |
